Implants are one of the ways of replacing missing teeth and giving the mouth back both its appearance and its chewing function. A simple implant can be placed in ten to fifteen minutes. Surgical implant procedures take longer because they are used where the jawbone is not dense or plentiful enough to hold the implant on its own.

When bone grafting is needed

If the bone at the implant site is too thin or too soft, a bone graft is placed first and the area is left to heal. New bone forms around the graft over the following weeks, creating a base solid enough to carry the implant.

The healing period

Implant surgery usually moves to the prosthetic stage after two to three months. During this time the implant integrates with the bone. Once healing is complete, impressions are taken and teeth are made specifically for your mouth and fitted onto the implants.

What to expect afterwards

The result is a set of teeth that feel stable when you bite and speak. Implants are cared for like natural teeth: regular brushing, cleaning between the teeth and routine check-ups.
